Holiday Travel: The Most Important Time to Plan Ahead
Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's are the busiest travel periods of the year. Newark, JFK, and LaGuardia airports see passenger volumes 30–40% higher than normal during peak holiday weeks. Planning your transportation early is essential.
When to Book Holiday Transportation
Thanksgiving: Book by early November. The Wednesday before Thanksgiving is the single busiest travel day of the year.
Christmas/Hanukkah: Book by early December. December 23rd and 26th are peak days.
New Year's: Book by mid-December. New Year's Eve and New Year's Day demand spikes significantly.
Spring Break: Book 3–4 weeks in advance.
Holiday Traffic Reality
During Thanksgiving week, the NJ Turnpike and Garden State Parkway can see delays of 1–2 hours above normal. Plan your departure accordingly:
- Add 30–45 minutes to normal travel time for most NJ airports
- For JFK, add up to 60 minutes for holiday travel
- Consider early morning flights that depart before traffic builds
